I made a MAME ctrlr file (more info about the MAME ctrlr configuration can be found at the BYOACWiki) for my friend’s Pelican X-Box arcade sticks (he has two of them). He uses X-Box to USB converters so he can use them with his computer. Even though I made it to use the X-Box Pelican arcade sticks, it may work with other X-Box via USB arcade controllers (for PC/MAME).
To use: unzip the archive and place the file in your ‘\mame\ctrlr\’ directory. You can then select XBox_Pelican in your favorite MAME GUI (like MAMEUI or EmuLoader) or add the line: ctrlr XBox_Pelican to your mame.ini file manually. You may need to delete your ‘\mame\cfg\default.cfg’ file for this to work.
MAME Pelican ctrlr file (1.4 KB).
Will this work with other brands of USB joysticks?
Possibly, it depends on the button layout. You may need to open the file in a text editor and change the button order though.
You can also set your default controls in-game in MAME, then open \mame\cfg\default.cfg and compare it to my \mame\ctrlr\xbox_pelican.cfg file.
