According to a recent Wired article; Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles are seeking 6 months in prison for a man who pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of uploading pre-release Guns N’ Roses songs.

I know it is making available and not downloading, but I always thought that copyright violations were (and should be) a civil issue (I mean it’s not technically stealing since the victim has not lost the original copy, although I am not making the case that it is acceptable). I suppose I feel that the punishment should fit the crime (in this case punitive damages and not jail time). After all it is merely copying data (the article calls it a misdemeanor) and not equivalent to a violent crime. I really hope that article got it wrong and they don’t really mean prison.

Yes, I use Linux for most things, but I have a dual-boot set up between Fedora and Windows XP. I play a few games that are Windows only, so I have to keep Windows around…

Well I have been waiting patiently for two MechWarrior mods (which take place in the BattleTech universe) for various games. Mechwarrior Living Legends is a total conversion mod for Crysis and MekTek’s upcoming (unofficial) MekPak 4 patch is for Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries.

I really wish they were still around… Funny thing is I own the (self-titled) album Butter 08 and it took me years to realize that Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda were in the band… =)

Well, I have only been here a few months and it’s easy to get bored when you don’t know many people. Usually (at my age) you meet people at your work, but since we are a small lab there aren’t a lot of (single) people my age to hang out with. I spend plenty of time in the lab (all the hours I want… lol) but in my free time I have been exploring Tempe.

I live just off of Mill Avenue (the west edge of ASU) so there is lots to do in the evenings nearby. Plenty of nice restaurants and clubs, etc… I got bored and tested my blood (at work) the other day and my lipid panel was terrible, I have been awfully sedentary lately and eating worse (and more) than I did in Denver (boredom strikes!!). My only solution (other than taking statin drugs) is to try and get more exercise and eat better (apparently it is kinda tough to change old habits)…
