More Free Music from Beckament!!!

AM JamAs you probably (don’t) know I have been playing guitar and writing songs since I was about 14… F***ed Up was recorded in 1999 and released in 2000… we were listening to lots of crazy music at the time so it’s kind of an eclectic batch of songs. These masters are off the reel-to-reel and not cleaned up and tweaked (and normalized) like the actual album was, but I think it’s worth a listen. If you like it I can probably dig up a copy of the release version of the album  and get you a copy (for a small fee).

Kevin and Jer were not in the band when we recorded this album, but they used to come over and jam on the weekends and give us feedback on our music… As soon as we lost the members of the band that were on this album they joined up in an instant (which got us back to a power trio format which I enjoy). I actually have about 2 and a half albums worth of songs we recorded before I moved to Tempe and when I get motivated I will release them on the Beckament Band site.

Music

Some of the songs I’ve written and performed over the years… Much of our music has explicit lyrics, so you are forewarned!

D-Street (2002; music: Chris and Erik, vocals: Chris) With Me on guitar and Erik D. on baritone. The whole song was done before I even started working on the lyrics… Funny thing, it’s kinda about a girl I used to go out with… shocking, huh? And yes, that’s me singing…

F# (2000; music: Erik and Chris, lyrics: Chris and Crystal, drums: Chris) One of our slower and nicer songs on our 2000 album, F***ed Up.

Quick5 (2000; music: Chris and Erik, vocals: Crystal and Erik, drums: Nate) Another rocker… this was really fun to record.

Big Band (1998; music: Chris and Erik [keyboards]) An instrumental from our demo CD, we don’t sound like this at all anymore.

You can hear more of my band’s music on the Beckament Band site.

Next Update, Please…

OK, the blog works now (well at least on the one computer I tested it on). I doubt anyone is going to read this, but what the hell… and I promise I’ll update the site soon.

Kevin brought his digital camera to practice last week and we got a few new pics of us playing. He also lined up another gig for us soon (another private party, sorry). We have been so focused on recording that it will be fun to go play these songs live (especially the new ones), not just playing the same song over and over in the studio until you get the best performance. I think the quality of the recording and songwriting is the best work that I have ever been a part of and I can’t wait until it’s finished.

Progressive Rock…?

Uh oh… It was recently brought to my attention that some of our new songs are not really progressive rock… (although some are). So this album is going to go as planned… But the next batch of songs (some of which are already being planned/imagined/written/composed as we speak) will have more: key changes, time signature changes, tempo changes, and run-on licks that traverse 3 instruments… you bet!

We’ve always had pretty much a classic rock sound (sometimes a bit hillbilly, sometimes a bit jazzy, sometimes just weird) which makes sense ’cause we all grew up listening to similar stuff even though we lived in different states.
