Portable App: User Accounts

User AccountsYet another pointless PortableApp. This one opens up your User Accounts Manager…

This has only been tested on Windows XP and is not approved or endorsed by PortableApps.com.

There is no installer, but it is quite easy to install… just unzip and copy the folder to your ‘\PortableApps\’ directory on your removable drive. Then choose ‘OPTIONS -> REFRESH APP ICONS’ and it should be available in your PortableApps menu.

Source is included!

You can get it here.

RemoveAdmin (Safer Web Browsing)

removeAdmin-ConfigurationThe removeAdmin utility is pretty neat… It runs your web browser with limited user privileges, in effect it keeps it from writing to your ‘Program Files’ and ‘Windows’ directories. Many malware programs copy themselves to one (or both) of these directories. In effect it can help reduce the amount of malware that gets installed on your system by restricting write access to these directories (they are where important system files are kept and are often an attack vector for malware).

The default installer will attempt to create secure shortcuts on your desktop for Internet Explorer and Firefox web browser. It is my understanding that it can be configured (with minimal effort) to run with other browsers as well. Here is a screenshot example showing how I have it configured for use with Firefox.

PortableApp: Windows Mixer

PortableApps MixerWell I guess I am just bored, so here is another pointless PortableApp. This one opens up your Windows XP Mixer… I really like the PortableApps software and I can pack a lot on my 8GB USB memory card.

As always this has only been tested on Windows XP and is not approved or endorsed by PortableApps.com. Again there is no installer, but it is quite easy to install… just unzip and copy the folder to your ‘\PortableApps\’ directory on your removable drive. Then choose ‘OPTIONS -> REFRESH APP ICONS’ and it should be available in your PortableApps menu.

You can download it here.

Game Controllers PortableApp

I have only tested this on Windows XP. You can get it here.

Source code is included.

Computer Management PortableApp

Computer Management Portable AppThis is just a simple launcher to be used with the PortableApps package (which runs from a USB memory card). All it does is open the Windows ‘Computer Management’ utility.

There is no installer, but it is quite easy to install… just unzip and copy the folder to your ‘\PortableApps\’ directory on your removable drive. Then choose ‘OPTIONS -> REFRESH APP ICONS’ and it should be available in your PortableApps menu.

I have only tested this on Windows XP. You can get it here.

Some Programs I like (Windows)

Yes, I use Linux for most things, but I have a dual-boot set up between Fedora and Windows XP. I play a few games that are Windows only, so I have to keep Windows around…

I have found some useful programs over the years and thought I would share a few of my favorites with you (in no particular order). These are all (currently) free or free for personal use.
